What makes the Enersys diesel starting batteries different from the others? Enersys's exclusive tubular positive plate technology, that's what! It has constantly delivered high-rate performance since 1910.
The basic design has remained the same for the last eighty plus years. In fact, the square tubular positive plate has become a world standard, and nationwide it's still an Enersys exclusive. That's one of the reasons our low maintenance line of diesel locomotive starting batteries can be found on most locomotives today.
TUBULAR POSITIVE PLATES
Batteries rely on a chemical reaction between active materials and electrolyte to produce voltage and current. When compared to conventional flat plate batteries, Enersys's exclusive square tubular positive plate design provides 60% greater surface area for holding active material and exposing it to electrolyte. This results in improved high rate performance.
LONGER LIFE
The Enersys diesel cranking line offers 75% longer battery life because the positive conducting spines are surrounded by active material. This protects them from corrosion. Our heavy duty negative grid structure keeps negative active material in place during the rigors of shock, vibration, and deep and heavy discharges. The benefits are longer life and higher capacity, both in ambient and low temperature service.
SLEEVE SEPARATORS
Our sleeve separators promote the free flow of electrolyte around positive and negative plates to help assure constant load performance. The sleeve design eliminates moss shorts across positive and negative plates and problems due to missing or misaligned separators, the number one cause of premature battery failure.
MORE POWER
Copper-core intercell connectors and terminals reduce electrical resistance and provide greater sustained starting power. Enersys's improved state-of-the-art element design provides 10% more cranking power at lower temperatures.
Enersys's LMUD-725 provides the highest power output of any locomotive starting battery in the industry. With Capacities from 280 to 725 A.H., we've got the power you need.
HEAT BONDED TOP
Maintenance requirement are further reduced with a tough tray material, unique heat seal top and safety insulated dead top. Heat sealing the cell cover to the jar creates a permanent seal with a lifetime guarantee. Resealing is not required. Electrolyte creepage, corrosion buildup and loss of power from electrolyte dilution are also eliminated.
REDUCED MAINTENANCE COSTS
Metallurgical improvements in positive plate metal and greater electrolyte reserve guarantee watering just once a year (@77oF,2.3V/cell), versus four times a year. This results in at least a 75% reduction in labor costs for watering every year for every locomotive.
NATIONWIDE SERVICE
Enersys has a nation wide service network to provide you with quality service backup.
